Ageless Joy!

My work with the Nikon Creative Lighting System paid off in a small way. I took this picture of Marie using my D300 in the command mode, and using the SB600 in remote mode, TTL, off to the left. We had 30 entries in the club competition "Smiles" and this shot won. I was pleased.

Fast Glass Weekend in West Virginia

Had some solo time this weekend. I headed for Babcock State Park, WV, near Beckley, hoping for some fall colors. The colors weren't peak, but it was a great weekend. Camped in site #19 in my Kelty Crestone 1 solo tent. I used both my Nikon SB-800 and SB-600 inside the tent to take this shot of the tent well after dark. (Used Shadow/Highlights in PSE4 to adjust.) Should have done a self-portrait somehow IN the tent.
Wood was $4 a bundle (8 pieces, but the young girl suggested I take 10.) Enjoyed the fire, solitude, and cool evening. Went down to 40 that night.

Earlier in the evening I went down to the grist mill for a few pictures before dark. Here's one. Used my Nikon 20mm F/2.8 AF lens, F/8 @ 1/5 second, on tripod, 2 second self-timer and delay on. Had the vivid +3 set on the D300 -- I like the colors. Love the D300. Let's me do what I want -- full control. Really like the 1oo% viewfinder. Only took fast glass: 35-70mm, 20mm, 24mm, 105mm, 300mm, all F/2.8; 50mm, 85mm, both F1.8. (I did take my 80-400mm AF-VR in case of wildlife. I did see some deer near my campsite but that's all.) I used all but the 80-400 and the 50mm. Hmmm, I also took my 135mm F/3.5 MF lens and my 200mm F/4 MF lens. Used the 135. Sharp lens.

Great weekend until my truck started to die.
