Nikon Extended Eye Relief Scope

Nikon Encore EER 2.5-8x pistol scope mounted with S&K (Sugar Grove, PA) mount. Scope was refurbished, thus the silver color -- not my first choice. Saved $$$ though.

It's been bore-sighted only.

Range Report: Adjusted Mosin Nagant Front Sight

2010-12-21-Range
Hustled to the range before dark. Here’s the scene: Mosin in the foreground. The far left, black target has the cardboard that functioned as the target. (I did not use the Lead Sled. Just used 2x4s  as a rest.) (Click on images for bigger, closer view.)

I had lengthened (raised up) the front sight by slipping some wiring tubing onto the front sight. As you can see, it lowered where the gun shoots. The sight needs to be shortened additionally to bring the point of impact back up. (The upper shot was just a free-hand fun shot. The lower three are the group – be it as it may.)

The rule of thumb is to move the front sight in the direction of the point of impact of the group. So, in this case, I'm shooting low so I need to shorten the front sight. I'll clip down the tubing on the front sight. Tubing on the front sight is not a solution for me in the long run; I need a scope, and will likely put the 2.5x NcStar fixed power scope on the Mosin after I acquire a mount from S&K or Ogershok.

After cleaning the Mosin, I “pulled” two 7.62x54R bullets, a Privi brass and one of the surplus corrosives. Here’s what I found:
Bullet Shape
Bullet Weight
Powder charge
Privi
Boat-tail SP
149.8 gr
51 gr
Surplus
Boat-tail FMJ
149.3 gr
47.8 gr
